Boston College has two cheerleading squads. The Maroon Squad is composed of up to ten males and ten females. The Gold Squad is composed of up to twenty four females. Boston College Cheerleading tryouts take place during the spring semester. Please e-mail the Boston College Cheerleading office for more information at cheer@bc.edu.

    HOW TO PREPARE

First and foremost get your application in to the university as soon as possible to insure that you are accepted to attend school here. Visit cheer@bc.edu for application information. Next, make sure you are in top physical condition. Our cheerleading team members lift weights and regularly participate in cardiovascular workouts. This will not only improve your overall talent, it will also insure your safety and decrease the risk of injury.

If you are planning a campus visit, please feel free to schedule a time to meet with the coaching staff. This will give you a chance to meet the people who run the program. A meeting with the coaching staff will give you an opportunity to tour cheerleading related facilities on campus. Please schedule meetings with the coaching staff two weeks in advance. Please e-mail cheer@bc.edu for details.

    TRYOUT PROCEDURE

The purpose of tryouts is to pick the most talented athletes who give the best representation of Boston College. The tryout process will aide the coaching staff in choosing the best all around teams for Boston College.

Note: Boston College's program is arranged so that a cheerleader may be moved from one squad or the other depending on ability, maturity, and dedication.

Day 1 - Registration, Material & Technical Clinics

Registration - Everyone who is interested in participating in tryouts must attend a registration/informational meeting on the first day of tryouts. This is to give you specific information about the program and to insure that everyone is aware of the safety guidelines prior to tryouts.

Material & Technical Clinics - Athletes will meet and learn collegiate material. This portion of tryouts will include jumps, tumbling, collegiate material and partner stunting.

    Day 2 - Formal Tryout

On the final day of tryouts, athletes will demonstrate collegiate material, jumps, tumbling, and partner stunts. These areas along with short interviews, will be used to choose the final teams. A judging panel will be utilized, however the coaching staff/administration will choose the teams using the judges' scores as a guideline. The coaching staff/administration will select the teams that will work best together and perform at the most elite level.

**Final teams will be posted on this day 1 hour after tryout activities are completed.
